Auto detailing involves the use of various types of cleaning machines: steam cleaners, pressure washers, and carpet cleaners.

Either one or more of these products can be used for effective cleaning of automobiles. The following are some tips to select each of these products for auto detailing.

Steam Cleaners
Steam cleaners are efficient cleaning machines. One major advantage of these machines is their dry steam output, which is only 5% liquid content. However, it should be noted that the high temperature output can cause harm to the softer surfaces of vehicles too. Steam cleaners should only be used for spot cleaning upholstery and on surfaces such as windows. They are not ideal for cleaning entire vehicle bodies.

Carpet Cleaners
These are best for cleaning the soft interior surfaces of automobiles. Machines such as Daimer®’s XTreme Power® XPH-5800TU inject a mixture of water and cleaning agent onto mats and carpets. Daimer® recommends using a green chemical such as their Eco-Green® Carpet Care & Upholstery Cleaner. When buying carpet cleaners for auto detailing, one must buy a machine with low flow technology. Such machines limit the quantity of water passed onto the surface allowing carpets to dry in as little as two hours.

Pressure Washers
These are suitable for cleaning the hard metal exterior surfaces of automobiles. For auto detailing, the output pressure level of these machines should not exceed 1500 psi. Machines with higher pressure levels might cause damages to other soft surfaces of vehicles. Look for machines such as Daimer®’s Super Max™ 6120SCW, which features steam temperatures of 250°F, pressure levels of 1000 psi, and low flow rates of 0.5 GPM.
